I miss my monkeys

Memphis and the Mississippi river

I used to live in Memphis and I was a regular at the Memphis Zoo. It is not the biggest zoo, not a famous zoo but in my eyes one of the best zoos because it has the best combination of good.

When I used to go, the panda section was an experience. A wide range of animals and reptiles. Everything that you need for a zoo. It was big enough to keep your interest but not too big to make you tired.

With the isolation we live with today, one memory I enjoy the best from the zoo was the Howler Monkeys. I came often enough that the howler monkeys would recognize me. I would come around the corner and they would give me a fabulous entrance. I would in return say hi and check-in and give them attention.

People would not believe me so we would go to the zoo and after seeing and hearing their reaction there was no doubt that the monkeys knew me.

It is a special experience when you develop a connection to an animal. Anyone who has had a dog or a cat knows.

I will be happy when things get back to normal and we can make memories again.

If you can support these institutions, like zoos and museums it is an important responsibility, so that we have something to go back to.
